An overwhelming majority believe that the residue coating the apples is...wax!
This disturbs me greatly. Had I not washed the apples in a salt bath, this wax would never have been visible and since soap and water can't remove it, I suspect that as we all think we are getting our produce clean enough to eat, we sadly may not be.
Had I just consulted the Ohio Seasonal Produce Chart, I would have realized that I was eating out of season and therefore ensuring I was not getting locally grown and hopefully (fingers crossed) residue free apples from our very own orchards. They taste the better anyway.

LMAO! Thanks! BTW, there have been some local apples from southern counties at farmers markets already, so it won't be long until we can have good fresh local apples! :)
