This Short Video Turned Me Into A Garbage Chick!

No one likes litter - it's ugly, it's unnecessary and it's 100% preventable.  But more so, it's disheartening.

When you see litter, you know someone didn't care about the earth that we all share and decided that their own needs were more important than the needs of anyone or anything else.

No one I know litters, at least I hope I don't know anyone like that.  But until recently, I realized that I was no better than someone who litters, because I ignored it. 

Don't we all just think in our heads how horrible to see an empty water bottle lying on the ground, but then walk right past it?  Of course we rationalize that it's dirty and we don't know where it's been and that makes it alright to ignore it.

It only took 3 minutes & 48 seconds to change my life forever.

I'm proud to say, that I am now a Garbage Chick!  That's right, I can't ignore litter anymore.  I am compelled to pick it up & pitch it properly.  And, I get joy from doing it...

One, knowing that I'm helping this beautiful earth.

Three, because someone might see me doing it and just maybe will be inspired to do the same.

Farm Sanctuary, Los Angeles

You've heard me boast about Farm Sanctuary before in my posts: Mary Had A Little Lamb...But She Didn't Eat It! and Give A Lucky Turkey A Happy Thanksgiving! and I Just Became A Farm Sanctuary Member!

I've been planning a trip to one of their locations ever since I became a member.

Living in Ohio, I naturally thought that I would visit their Watkins Glen, NY location.  But instead on a recent trip to California, I was able to check out the Los Angeles location, which was founded in 2005.



 
You don't need to be a member of the sanctuary to take their hour long tour, but wouldn't you just feel better?  Their $5 tour offered only on Sundays allows you to get up close and personal with various farm animals who were fortunate enough to land their forever home at this 26-acre sanctuary.  Unfortunately, they are there because they were abused, in a bad situation or left for dead.  The 100 cows, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens and one lama got lucky and were rescued, many more are not so fortunate.  You can learn about each animal's story during the tour and a lot more.

Goodbye Morticia

It's with a heavy heart that I write this post this morning.

Last night Morticia entered into her final stage of life.  She went peacefully, surrounded by those who love her.

You know Morticia from her posts, Adopt A Black Cat - Bring Luck To Your Family! and You Gotta See The Baby!

She's was a critic for the Documentaries section, giving a paws up or paws down when warranted and she also made an appearance in the  Cooking With the Healthy Hoff cookbook. Yep, those are her paws all over the pages.

And even though she wasn't vegan, she supported me during my vegan transition and believed in the vision of the Healthy Hoff.

Morticia has been my unwavering companion for over 16 years.  She always greeted me at the door and followed me wherever I went.  She was always happy and that made me happy.

Morticia was a great cat, a unique cat - a truly compassionate soul.

Till our paths cross again...
